History is littered with precocious buds who have failed to bloom. That one would fail so regularly despite having the best support ecosystem and goodwill, speaks of our desperation to see RP succeed at any cost overlooking the fundamental lack of temperament or situational understanding. As the saying goes - One Swallow does not make a summer, neither does one Brisbane make a mature cricketer. I may have to eat my words (alongwith a humble pie) but that is my two bits on Mr Pant's current (non) achievements.

I'd disagree about Brisbane being the only feather in Pant's cap. By now, his Test career is a glittering trophy cabinet of extremely well-calculated innings. He has scored match-saving and winning knocks everywhere in the world. That's not something one says about too many Test cricketers.

I do fully agree that, in coloured clothing, he has looked like a deer in headlights. Sometimes he plays as if it's illegal to rely on intelligence. Which is equal amounts frustrating and bewildering hah.

My only mistake is that I forgot to add the proviso that my comments only apply to limited overs cricket and not tests🙂

It's difficult to not root for a person who plays with heart. Albeit some may do it silently!!

I think the white ball game has changed too much from Gilchrist and Dhoni's time. Pant's dynamism hits a wall in white ball cricket. He cant play the percentages like Dhoni did. He cant steer a chase etc. That is why he is better off playing test cricket where his dynamism has an outlet in the attacking fields set by the opposition. Somewhat but not exactly similarly to Sehwag who had a better record in white ball cricket. Again Sehwag played mostly in the traditional white ball cricket era. Today, India has too many options for wicketkeepers who can belt the ball a mile in white ball cricket. Pant is as indispensable to the test team as he is dispensable to the white ball team. And he is not captaincy material. He is a kid who likes to chirp from behind the stumps, and those are absolute pearlers 😊 and he should stick to that.
