I think you can take sole responsibility for the fact that I watched most of the final yesterday. It was more than just cricket and, you have summed it up beautifully.
What a beautiful, goosebump-inducing piece, Sarthak. You have managed to capture the emotion of that night perfectly. It felt like reliving every moment, every face, every heartbeat. I especially loved how you wove the personal histories of the players into the collective triumph. Truly, a tryst with destiny indeed.
In between reading this piece, I got up, re-enacted that entire last sequence with Harry Di’s catch, and sat back down to finish the rest of this piece. Your words make it come alive and how 👌🏼
Beautifully written! I haven’t followed women’s cricket much. But this tournament has been a great start. Enjoyed reading your pre-match write ups and this one! ☝️
I just watched the highlights and I was teary eyed. I read some back stories of Amanjot and her bond with her grandmother, Jemimah's struggles, and just thought to myself, wow! These young women have really created history - it's almost like getting suffrage rights for women. Salute to our women. Thank you for another beautiful heartfelt expression of the world of sports. And yes, acknowledging Prem too.
i happen to have coincidentally read this with the soundtrack to 83 in my ears and I'm in tears. what a beautiful moment we all get to share witness to.
Written beautifully with heart. For me Harmeet hugging Eduljee and Ramawamy marks a line in history as the forerunners cry in pride of what the next generations that stood on thier shoulders move forward.
Thanks for capturing the many stories behind this win so beautifully Sarthak and for doing it in such a timely manner. I saw the game live but got to relive it through your essay.
Your write-up is so so good. Thank you for this wonderful essay/article that moved me to tears. I have forwarded it so many people in the family. May there be many 10-year old girls who start playing cricket, and may there be many 10 -year old boys who start watching women's cricket matches too.
